James Vrooman

James Vrooman was the son of Adam, a Captain in Butler’s Rangers who was granted crown land in Queenston. He was the second youngest of seven children and youngest of five sons. His eldest brother was Solomon Secord Vrooman who was in the Lincoln Militia & who inherited his father’s land. He was born on 22 Apr 1794.
William Dukes

William Dukes was born c 1778 in Hindon, Wiltshire, England. At the age of 15 he volunteered for the Wiltshire Militia where he spent nine years. He was discharged at the rank of private and served as a private in the 59th Regiment of Foot for six months. After this he signed up for the 41st Regiment of Foot, 1st Battalion.

A War of 1812 Hero Returns Home

Captain John Jenkins returned to Fredericton a crippled war hero of great acclaim. From a respected Loyalist family, he was born in 1786 in New Brunswick. He was described “as a tall, fine looking young man,” one of six siblings, two of which were half brothers. He developed a close attachment to his Kingsclear family home and to the neighbors, the Winslows. Judge Edward Winslow noted in a letter that Jenkins was “as usual” a constant visitor. Although Edward Winslow Junior was a close personal friend, young Penelope Winslow held a particular attraction.
Roderick Matheson

He served in the War of 1812, having been gazetted senior Ensign of the Glengarry Light Infantry on the 6 Feb 1812. In 1813 the young Matheson’s services were so highly appreciated by the military authorities that he was appointed Lieutenant and Pay Master.
John McDonald

John McDonald was living we believe in Westmeath township before 1830.
John was to have been a brother to Walter and William he lived on Conc 1, Lot 24 which was in the vicinity of Little Mud Lake, an area which was between the Muskrat River and Hwy 17.
William Horricks

Born December 18, 1789 near Manchester, Lancashire, England, in January 1807, at the age of 18, William Henry Horricks enlisted in the British Army as a Private in the 6th Regiment of Foot. In army records his surname is also spelled Horrocks and Horrax. From April of that year through June 1808 he served garrison duty at Gibraltar then, that summer, became part of a force landed at Mondego Bay, Portugal, joining the command of Sir Arthur Wellesley (later Duke of Wellington).
