At Historic Military Establishment of Upper Canada (HMEUC), we understand the importance of protecting the privacy of our Applicant’s personal information. We are committed to complying with current privacy legislation and guidelines. We continue to respect and protect the personal information of our Applications by:
•Limiting collection, use and disclosure;
•Establishing procedures to receive and respond to inquiries and complaints;
•Ensuring accuracy and accountability through staff training;
•Safeguarding sensitive information using the best available security systems and practices.
However, this is a unique project and it’s purpose is information sharing. The application that you complete and ultimately submit for a Graveside Marker is for all visitors, throughout the world. Your application data, once approved, will be shared with the world through the Internet and any other means that HMEUC deems suitable for the purpose of forwarding knowledge of the War of 1812, it’s veterans and Canada. The photos of the media event, should have all people clearly identified with titles and consent to their images being used for this project. This is your responsibility.

Information Collection and Use
The information on this site is used only by HMEUC. We value our Applicants too much to jeopardize our relationship with them. Applicants do not have to worry about information being sold, shared or rented to others. Applicants will not get onto any Internet mailing lists because they created an application for a Graveside marker through this program.
Registration
Creating an application online requires you to create an account and login. When you register, you create a password and username combination. We recommend that you make it at least 12 characters long, include upper and lowercase characters as well as including special characters and numbers. It be used only by you anytime you submit, edit or view your application status. DO NOT SHARE IT WITH ANYONE.
Correcting/Updating Your Personal Information
After becoming an 1812veteran.ca registered User, we require you to keep your personal contact information current as this is the source we will use for contacting you. You may click on the User -> Your Profile link in once logged in. The changes you make will be reflected in our databases instantly. If you wish to deactivate your account, you may contact us through either of the contact on the Contact Us page.
If you require a password reset, go to the login page, enter your User Name and click on the “Lost Your Password?” link underneath the password box. Information will be sent to your current email address.
Links To Other Sites
This Web site contains links to other web sites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you may be leaving the www.1812veterans.com site and entering another web site. These sites may independently collect or request information about you and we encourage you to read the privacy statements of these linked sites as their privacy policy may differ from ours.
Cookies & Javascript
Cookies are small data files that facilitate the Applicants information transfer from page to page. This website destroys the information at the “Logout”. Thse cookies are required to maintain continuity from page to page for the application process. This site will not function properly without this enabled.
In order to better facilitate the design of the application, Javascript should be turned on for clarity. If you have disabled it, we recommend that you enable it in order to follow the logical steps of filling in the application form. Although you may be able to figure out the intent of a pages form without Javascript turned on, there is no guarantee it will submit properly and we are unable to provide technical support.
Is the best communication method we have of contacting you. It is your responsibiltiy to ensure that you have kept your email updated through your User -> Your Profile screen and included us in your contact book so our emails don’t inadvertently end up in your spam folder. This is also the address that a new password will be sent to in the event that you forget your current password.
We encourage Applicants to e-mail us their questions or comments. We read and respond to all the e-mails we receive. In cases where an Applicant shares useful information and we would like to share it with other Applicants by posting it on our references page. We will not check with the Applicant prior to posting information we feel useful and will not identify the Applicant. If you wish your tips to be confidential, please note this in your email.
Security
At HMEUC, we have taken every precaution to protect our Applicants information. We recognize that all personal information is private and will be used only for the purposes of your application. Conversely, it is your responsibilty to keep your User Name and Password secret to avoid malicious use of your account.
Notification of Changes
We will post changes to our Privacy Policy on our homepage so our Applicants are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
Should HMEUC decide to use personal information in any manner different from that stated at the time of collection or in our Terms and Conditions, we will contact Applicants via e-mail to obtain consent for the proposed new use. Any individual has the right to refuse consent for their personal information to be used for a purpose other than that which was originally stated.
