Harris William Hailes was born at Burton Park, Surrey, England on 13 September 1752.  He was first commissioned a Lieutenant Captaincy in the 1st Battalion British Grenadiers.  He served with this regiment during General Clinton’s campaign in the southern colonies and was present at the capture of Charleston, South Carolina.

William Fiegehen was stationed with the British Garrison in Lower Canada and later on Drummond Island on Lake Huron, Upper Canada. He received a grant of land in appreciation for military service of the 200 acres on Lot 16 Conc 13, West Gwillimbury in 1837.

Dumaresq, Perry, Naval Officer, office holder, Justice of the Peace, and Judge; b 19 Sept 1788 on the island of Jersey, son of Philippe (Philip) Dumaresq and Jersua (Jerusha) Perry; m 21 Nov 1808 Louisa W Newton in St Paul’s Church (Anglican) in Halifax, and they had 13 children; m secondly 6 Aug 1833 Mary Stewart in Dalhousie, NB, and they had no children; d there 13 March 1839.

William Barry Phair was born on 17 March 1783 on Staten Island, Colony of New York.  His father, Lieutenant Andrew Phair, was an officer in Major General Benedict Arnold’s Loyal American Legion.  After the end of the Amercian Revolution, the family came to Fredericton, New Brunswick as Loyalists.  Andrew Phair held government appointments such as Deputy Barrack Master and Postmaster, both at Fredericton.

This application is being made on behalf of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Kingsclear, New Brunswick.

Lawrence Bradshaw Rainsford was the fourth son of Captain, the Honourable Andrew Rainsford, who was the Receiver General of His Majesty’s Quit Rents in West Florida from 1774 until it was captured by the Spanish in 1781.  He was also active in military affairs serving as the Fort-Adjutant and Barrack-Master at Fort George.  After the end of the revolution, he and his family came to New Brunswick as Loyalists.  Andrew Rainsford held several public offices including Receiver General for the province and Deputy Barrack Master General.  Five of his sons later served in the military.

George Hoffman (Huffman) was born February 18, 1795 in Bertie Twp., Lincoln Co., Upper Canada, one of at least six children born to Michael Hoffman (Huffman) and Elizabeth Ransier.  Michael had come to this Province in 1786 with his father, mother and sisters following the American Revolution.  Michael’s older brothers, Jacob and Nicholas, were both Privates in Col. Edward Jessop’s Corps and Col. Butler’s Rangers, respectively.

John Arnold
1st Regiment York Militia

John Arnold was born in 1769 in Perth Amboy of the New Jersey colony that was later to become part of the United States.  John Arnold Senior fought on the side of the British in the New Jersey forces during the American Revolution.  When their land was confiscated in New Jersey in 1784, John Senior, with his wife and ten children, was granted 1000 acres in Nova Scotia.  However, by 1797 the Arnold family, attracted by the land offers of John Graves Simcoe had settled in the York area.
