Jacob Hoffman Jr.

Jacob Hoffman Jr. (Huffman) was born in Bertie Twp. in 1790, the first son of Jacob Hoffman (Huffman) UE (Private in Col. Edward Jessop’s Corp.) and Anna Ransier, DUE (daughter of Andres Ransier, Private Butler’s Rangers and his wife Agnes).  He grew up on his father’s farm on the north side of Bertie Road, straddling Ridge Road North, known as Lots 3, Conc 9, 10 and 11th of Bertie.  Jacob applied for Lord Dorchester’s Bounty when he attained the age of 21 years, in 1811, however the Order-In-Council was not issued until 1833.

Andrew Miller3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia

The early life of young Andrew Miller, who was born in October 1766, is a mystery.  One family tree states that Andrew was born in Ulster Township,Pennsylvania, another tree suggests that Andrew was born in Ulster County, New York. However, the Miller family has come to the conclusion that Andrew was born in the Colony of Pennsylvania based on the theory that is mentioned later in this biography.

Jacob Everett

Jacob Everett was born in 1782, the son of Martin Everett and his wife, Elizabeth, who arrived at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) in 1781.  Martin and Elizabeth settled in Willoughby Twp, Lincoln County and this is likely where Jacob was born.

Phillip Wintemute3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia

In 1788 Peter and Eva Wintemute migrated from the Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania to Canada settling  along the Niagara River at Black Rock which was about three miles below Fort Erie.  Corporal Peter Wintemute was given a land grant for loyalty to the crown and his service to the King during the American Revolution.

Peter Tuttle3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia

Peter Tuttle was born in Bertie, Lincoln County, Upper Canada in 1797, one of ten known children of Jeremiah Tuttle and Susannah Slaght DUE.  His father, Jeremiah Tuttle, who came to Canada about 1787, farmed Lots 19, Concs 1 & 2 Bertie.  Jeremiah served in the 3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia during the War of 1812-14.

Jeremiah Tuttle3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia

Jeremiah Tuttle was born on the 14 September 1764.  According to his 1796 Upper Canada Land Petition, Jeremiah had been in the Province for nine years (since 1787) and had a wife and five children.   No information about Jeremiah’s origins was provided.

William Buck
3rd Regiment Lincoln Militia

William Buck, son of Philip Buck and Anna Marguerite Saultman, was born in 1788 in Bertie township, Lincoln County, Niagara.

His father Philip who was a native of Germany had been brought to America as an infant by his parents.  Philip Buck had settled on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania where had purchased land, had cleared 15 acres, had built a house, a barn and a barrack.
