2nd Regiment Grenville Militia

Joshua Adams built the Glen Tay mills that were situated on the Tay River in Glen Tay, Ontario, Canada.

He was born in Rutland, Vermont, USA, 5 May 1780.  He came to Canada with his parents and other United Empire Loyalist families in 1798 and settled in Bastard Township, 20 miles north of Brockville, Ontario, Canada. Joshua married Elizabeth Chipman whose family was also of UEL stock, from Vermont.  The couple had nine sons and four daughters.

Asahel Hurd
2nd Regiment Grenville Militia

Asahel Hurd was born in November 14th 1768 in Arlington, Bennington County. Vermont, USA.  He was a son of Loyalist  Phineas Hurd and Anna  Hawley originally from the United States. He  was a private/commanding officer  and then promoted to captain  of the 2nd Regiment Grenville Militia company who served in the Upper Canadian Militia during the War of 1812.

Henry “Harry” Burritt
2nd Regiment Grenville Militia

Henry “Harry” Burritt was born in Ontario, Canada on 26 August 1791. He was the son of Stephen Burritt (1759-1844) and Martha Stevens (1771/2-1830) of Vermont, USA and then Augusta Township, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada. He was a Loyalist by descent and was commissioned an officer and quickly promoted to Major in 1813 and  was promoted to Lieutenant and  appointed Lieutenant Colonel post-war of the 2nd Regiment Grenville Militia company who served in the Upper Canadian Militia during the War of 1812.

Stephen Burritt
2nd Regiment Grenville Militia

Stephen Burritt was born in New Milford, Litchfield County, Connecticut on 22 November 1759. He was one of 12 children, and the second oldest son, of Daniel Burritt, Sr. (1735-1827) and Sarah Collins (1733-1815) of Connecticut, later Vermont, and finally Augusta Township, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada.

Daniel Burritt Jr.
2nd Regiment Grenville Militia

Daniel Burritt, Jr. was born in Arlington, Vermont, USA on 22 March 1772. He was one of 12 children, and the second youngest son, of Daniel Burritt, Sr. (1735-1827) and Sarah Collins (1733-1815) of Connecticut, later Vermont, and finally Augusta Township, Grenville County, Ontario, Canada.  His father and elder brothers were United Empire Loyalist veterans of the American Revolution.  Following the war, Daniel Jr. settled in Upper Canada with his parents and most of his siblings.

Major Burritt
2nd Regiment of Grenville Militia

Major Burritt was born in Arlington, Vermont on 13 October 1775.  He was one of 12 children, and the youngest son, of Daniel Burritt, Sr. (1735-1827) and Sarah Collins (1733-1815) of Connecticut, later Vermont, and finally Augusta Township, Grenville County, Ontario.  Daniel Burritt Sr., a confirmed United Empire Loyalist, fought at the Battle of Saratoga when Major was just under two years of age.
