Frederick Near was yeoman as private in Capt. Hamilton’s Flank Company 2nd Regiment Lincoln Militia in 1812. Capt. Hamilton’s muster rolls shows his name from September to December 1812. He also served in Capt. Robert Grant’s Company in 1814. He was part of detachment erecting defense 27 April to 2 May 1814; works on Queenston Heights in May and June assembled at Mississauga Point; July and October on Third Riding.
He received Crown grant 30 April 1823 for the east half of Lot 23 Conc 8 Nissouri Township, District of London, Ontario. He sold this lot to his brother Jacob, 1 April 1825. He bought half of Lot 23 Conc 3 Erin Township in 1831 from his brother-in-law Adam Killman and in March 1855 sold it to his son John.
Frederick came to Upper Canada with his Father about 1800. They were not Loyalists. Frederick married Hannah Reilly b 24 Dec 1798, d 20 Jan 1831. He married Elizabeth Johnson 19 Feb 1833 b 19 Dec 1793, d 1 Jan 1874 in Erin Township.
In 1825 Frederick was elected to the Township Council.
