Charles Eddy Jr. was born in Wilbraham, Hampden County, Massachusetts in 1781. Charles left the USA sometime prior to 1803 and settled in the Oakland area of Canada West.
Charles would later go on to sell all of his land holdings in Massachusetts to his brother Abdeel in 1808. Charles married Sarah Malcolm in 1803 and with only a traveling minister who visited infrequently, was married by Squire Tyler.
Charles and Sarah had three children:
- John b 1805
- Abdeel b 1806
- Constant b 1817
Charles joined the local 1st Regiment Oxford Militia and fought in the War of 1812 under Captain John Malcolm and Captain Edward Watson.
Charles was said to be a member of the UEL but he is not officially listed in their records. Charles publicly disowned Sarah in 1828 after she abandoned him two years earlier.
Charles opened the first store in Scotland, just down the road from Oakland in 1836. He remained in the Oakland area until his death in 1852. No headstone can be located for Charles but it is thought he is buried in the Oakland Pioneer Cemetery where the stones have been gathered because of the run down condition of the cemetery and many of them are broken and illegible.
