Natives of Massachusetts Jabez Eaton and his wife Sarah Millard lived in Vermont for a number of years before moving to Upper Canada where they settled in Leeds County.
Jabez Eaton was a private in the Flank Company, 2nd Regiment Leeds Militia commanded by Captain John Struthers and was called to duty at Gananoque in July 1812 where he served until March 1813. He was likely present during the American attack on the settlement on September 21, 1812.
Following his militia service Jabez Eaton returned to his wife and family of ten children; he died on September 20, 1825 at the age of 58 years.
