Levi Green was born in May 1783 in Hardwick, Sussex, New Jersey, United States. He was the son of Ensign Adam Green UEL and Martha (Smith) Green. (Source: Upper Canada Land Petitions “C” Bundle 20, 1836-1837, RG1, L3, Vol 213, Petition #87) Adam Green UEL, who was a recruiter for the New Jersey Volunteers, acting under Colonel (Judge) Nathaniel Pettit during the Revolutionary War, had Lot 24 Conc. 4, Saltfleet Township, and petitioned for additional land in 1794, after which he received an additional 300 acres (Lot 24, 25 and 26, Conc 5) adjoining. Richard London SUE was born in 1772 in Greenwich, Sussex, New Jersey, USA. He was the son of Bartholomew London UEL, (Source: Upper Canada Land Petitions ‘L’ Bundle 20, 1837, RG 1 L3, V.295, Petition 54, C-2131, Archives Canada) a farmer, whom had suffered from being loyal to the British forces during the war.
“… he has been almost three months in one prison and from there removed to another when he was detained some time on suspicion of recruiting men for His Majesty’s Forces. He has suffered the loss of both health and property for his loyalty …”

Daniel McAfee was born 4 Aug 1791 in New York State, the son of Lieut. Dudley McAfee. By 1812 he had crossed the Niagara River and was living in the Niagara Peninsula. He served as a Sergeant, serving under Captain Samuel Hatt’s Flank Company, 5th Regiment Lincoln Militia, from 1812 to 1814. Daniel was at the taking of Detroit and at the Battle of Queenston Heights. He was taken prisoner by the Americans while conveying prisoners down the lake to Toronto and confined at Greenbush, near Albany, digging himself out and escaping. He was discharged at Queenston. His service is well-documented in 1812 Upper Canada Returns, Nominal Rolls and Paylists, RG 9 1B7. In 1876, when the Dominion of Canada presented the veterans of the War of 1812 with an annuity, Daniel is 84 years old and applied for this annuity from Galt in Waterloo County.

Jacob Smith was part of one of the earliest families that settled in the Burford Township area. Smith was born in 1797 in what was then known as Canada West. Like the other members of his family, Jacob joined the militia to fight against the invading American forces under General Duncan McArthur. Smith was assigned to the 2nd Flank Company 5th Regiment Lincoln Militia under Captain Samuel Hatt. Smith was awarded a land grant for his services at the close of the war.

Robert Biggar along with his wife Mary Lauder came to Canada in 1806 from Scotland U.K. Biggar along with his sons fought in the War of 1812 in the 2nd Flank Company 5th Regiment Lincoln Militia under Captain James Durand. Biggar was awarded a land grant and came to the Mount Pleasant area in 1816.
