Seneca Washburn
2nd Regiment Leeds Militia

Seneca Washburn was born in Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont in 1796 to Stephen Washburn and the former Asenath Sexton. The Washburn family along with some members of the Sexton family came to Leeds County, Upper Canada about 1806 settling in Lansdowne Township.

At the age of 16 Seneca Washburn was balloted for militia service and was on duty with Captain Benjamin Munsell’s Company in the 2nd Regiment Leeds Militia in 1814.

Seneca Washburn later married Sevina Warner with who he had a family of eight children; they lived in Lansdowne Township in an area known as Washburn’s Corners.

An active Mason Seneca Washburn was also one of the founding members of the Leeds County Agricultural Society in 1830.
